Firefly Music Festival made its festival debut last year in Dover, Delaware with huge headliners like The Killers, Jack White and The Black Keys, with surprise act: Modest Mouse. If you didn’t get a chance to go last year, you better start looking to go this summer. Firefly is run by Red Frog Events, who manage events like Warrior Runs. This year, they announced the entire lineup via video with footage shot at last year’s festival. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are going to headline this year. Other artists billed to perform include some of WERS’s favorites like, Alabama Shakes, Foster the People and Grizzly Bear.
For a brand new festival, last year’s lineup was daring and drew a large crowd. This year, those in charge of booking have pulled out all the stops and have secured a title of must-see summer concert. Not only are there big time artists, there are an abundance of them.
Always looking for a new way to connect with fans, Bonnaroo announced its lineup through an interactive, hour-long live broadcast on their website with Weird Al Yankovic as host. Fans were able to call in and find out bands before they were officially announced and Portugal. The Man performed their song “So American” live in the studio.
Both festivals have similar lineups, but what the the ten year-old festival held in Manchester, Tennessee has that Firefly doesn’t is R. Kelly, Björk, Paul McCartney and of course, the super jam. If you visit their website, don’t let the monstrous list bands fool you, there are still more to be announced.
