- About WERS
Before he found fame as a member of Talking Heads, Jerry Harrison made his first splash as a member of the short lived yet highly influential punk band The Modern Lovers. This Boston based band’s posthumously released self-titled debut played a major role in shaping the sound of many punk and underground rock bands including the Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Its individual members also went on to have successful careers on their own, as proven by Harrison’s involvement in Talking Heads.
Jerry Harrison persuaded Talking Heads to let him join them after seeing the band perform in Boston in 1976, the same year the Modern Lovers was released. Talking Heads were signed to the Sire record label the following year, after they opened for the Ramones at CBGB’s, and the Heads went on to become one of the most intelligent, quirky, and critically acclaimed alternative bands of the 1980s. Even by the time Talking Heads officially broke up in 1991, Harrison was already making a name for himself as a producer by working with artists like Violent Femmes and the Bodeans. Since then Harrison has produced albums for a wide range of critically acclaimed and commercially successful musical acts including Live, Crash Test Dummies and No Doubt.
