Tonight, Club Passim – January 30– Ryan Montbleau
A Peabody native and WERS favorite, Ryan Montbleau is the perfect blend of folk and edge who never forgets his roots. Between his solo work and with the Ryan Montbleau band, he’s racked up eight albums since 2002, and is currently touring in support of 2012’s For Higher in the middle of a larger, national tour. For a taste of the local scene gone big, Montbleau is your guy tonight!
Friday, February 8– Orpheum Theatre – fun.
Seems like fun. came out of nowhere last summer, huh? Not so! The group may have the Orpheum Theatre at their feet tomorrow night, but lead singer Nate Ruess has been paying his industry dues since his debut with The Format (check their stuff out!) all the way back in 2000. Since then, he’s tightened and tuned his sound as well as made the jump to fun., whose second album Some Nights can still be heard with any scan of the radio dial. Hey, we’re not fighting it, and if you can manage a ticket, they put on a hell of a show.
Saturday, February 9th – Agganis Arena – Passion Pit
This one’s still a week away, but you may as well gird your loins now. Passion Pit began in WERS’s backyard in Emerson College’s Little Building when lead singer Michael Angelakos recorded a couple songs for his girlfriend as a Valentine’s Day gift, and an unstoppable band was born. Currently touring in support of 2012’s Gossamer, the band’s sophomore effort shows no slow in momentum. Also, Matt and Kim will be playing—who can argue with that?
Until next week, concert-goers, continue to be baffled by the weather!
