New Releases Tuesday

Welcome to New Releases Tuesday on WERS. Every Tuesday we’ll take a look around the music scene and bring you updates on, you guessed it, the new albums coming out this week.

Singer and actor, Kris Kristofferson returned with his first album in four years, Feeling Mortal. Don Was, of the band Was (Not Was)—who has produced records for such acts as The Rolling Stones, The B-52’s, Bonnie Raitt, and Bob Dylan produced the record. Kristofferson was most recently seen playing an ex-con in the music video for Brandi Carlile’s “That Wasn’t Me”.

The Canadian twins and indie queens Tegan and Sara take to more of a mainstream pop sound on their seventh record, Heartthrob. They were touring with The Killers in support of the album and stopped by the WERS studio for a live session while they were in town. They are now headlining their own tour to promote Heartthrob which features the singles “Closer” and “I’m Not Your Hero”.

Local Natives, the LA based indie band, have released their sophomore album, Hummingbird. Aaron Dessner of The National produced the record which is a follow-up to 2009’s Gorilla Manor. Andy Hamm, the former Local Natives bassist, left the band in 2011. Hummingbird marks the first release from the band without him.

New Zealanders, The Ruby Suns, have released their fourth record, Christopher. Ryan McPhun, the leader of the indie-pop group has said that the tracks on album were inspired by his break up with his former girlfriend. They are currently touring to support the record and will be in Boston at The Brighton Music Hall on February 28th.
