On The Verge: River City Extension

At 4:15 PM each Tuesday, WERS brings you our On The Verge segment which highlights an artist we think is up-and- coming. This week’s artist On The Verge is the Indie Rock band from Tom’s River, New Jersey, River City Extension. The eight member band is fronted by Joe Michelini, a successful New Jersey solo act in his own right. He formed the band in 2007.

Their unique sound allows them to cross over multiple genres and in 2011, River City Extension became the first band in history to play both the Newport Folk Festival and Warped Tour. The bands with whom they have toured reflect this as well, including acts from Brand New and The Get Up Kids to The Apache Relay and The Avett Brothers.

River City Extension’s second full-length album, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Your Anger, was released earlier this year. It is a follow-up to 2010’s The Unmistakable Man, as well as their first EP from 2009, Nautical Sabbatical.
