Influenced by artists such as Jay-Z, Eminem, DMX, and Lupe Fiasco, Boston’s local artist Caliph tells a different side to your typical story through his music. His ethnic cultures such as Senegalese, Guinean & Cape Verdean have allowed him to be exposed to a variety of music. He developed a passion for music at the age of 5 by listening to the new, growing sound of hip hop in Senegal and jumped at every opportunity to perform their songs. In 1996, Caliph had to adapt to the rural south end of New Bedford, MA and the American life once he moved to the United States. He began by latching on to the one thing he had in common with the US: hip-hop. Although the language barrier was rough at first, he eventually learned it and picked up on the street slang used within American rap music. This caused his understanding of hip-hop to grow even more as music became more important to him. Having a new, balanced English vocabulary influenced Caliph to find new confidence within himself. Building buzz on school grounds and teaming up with old friends, they released The Standard Rhymes Mixtape. With the help of the LivinProof family, their music became known in the cities of New Bedford, MA, Providence, RI, and Boston, MA. They performed at local clubs, open mics and was featured in local newspapers. Caliph felt there was a present place for positivity in Hip-Hop. He dove right into it by Teaming up with James Rogers. Together they formed a music group and management company called GOOD Karma Management. Caliph and his GK team are working hard to deliver entertaining potent and positive music and art to the world.
You can listen to his music and other Good Karma artists at their website to support them.
