Each week, 889@Night will recognize local unsigned talent and promote their music on air as well as on our website. We highlight the talented few who got that “fire”. By the end of the week, we let our listeners choose whether they want these artists to be added to constant rotation or not. This week starting today, November 19th, 2012, we are highlighting local rapper Yung Chizz and playing his music at midnight and 12:30 am every night this week.
Although influenced by many other hip-hop artists, 23 year old Yung Chizz can’t really be compared to others because his dark, witty style and demeanor is so unique and different. Born and raised in the Mattapan area of Boston, MA, Chizz acquired his passion for rap at a very young age. At the age of 14, he started recording his own music. He released his first solo project, The Don Carlito Vol. 1, in July 2011. Ever since then, he has been on the move promoting his music by performing at colleges and local venues not only in Boston, but throughout the entire Northeast region as well. Chizz is the leader and founder of the group Firm Boyz. He is also a fraction of the hip-hop group Concealed Weaponz and dropped several versus and hooks the two projects the group produced. Last September, he released his own mixtape entitled House of Echalom…Shwing which included all industry beats and various freestyles to display the different facets of his music and most importantly his humor. This upcoming year, Chizz will take it a step further and release an all original album with the lead singles “Still Breathing” and “Up Down” featuring his Concealed Weaponz partner Grizzly the Specialist, Mitymaose and Monop. He looks at the album as a statement that solidifies his position as one of the most underrated and talented artists within his city.
