The WERS Artist of the Week is the South Australian indie rock band, Atlas Genius. Consisting of Keith Jeffrey on vocals and guitars, Steven Jeffrey on bass, Michael Jeffrey on drums and Darren Sell on keyboards, the band has made a big splash this year with their song, “Trojans”, which is off of their debut EP, Through The Glass.
Atlas Genius got their start when members of the group set out to build a studio where they could write and record their music. They spent two years constructing the studio and during that time also performed in local pubs playing cover songs by The Police, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. “Trojans” was the first song the band completed and was promptly made available on SoundCloud as well as iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
At this time the band was focusing on school and when they finally checked the band’s email account they realized they had tons of emails from record labels, publishers, lawyers, booking agents and management companies from all over the world. The group decided to make music their main focus and “Trojans” quickly was named iTunes Single of the Week in Australia and New Zealand. As the months went on, “Trojans” continued to explode and eventually went on to sell 45,000 units on iTunes… all before the band was even signed to a label.
They finally signed to Warner Brothers Records and in June of 2012, Atlas Genius’ debut EP, Through The Glass, was released. The band is working on releasing a full length record and is currently touring the United States.
Keep listening to WERS to hear music from Atlas Genius!
