Earl Sweatshirt Releases “Chum”

Earlier this week, Earl Sweatshirt of ODD FUTURE shook up the underground scene with a new song, “Chum”. One thing that characterizes OFGWKTA’s music is the raw emotion that embodies the lyrics, and Earl’s latest is no different.

On “Chum”, Earl takes the opportunity to look within him and examine what is making him tick. He raps about everything from his demons, the relationship with his parents, or lack thereof, to his forged brotherhood with Tyler, the Creator and his time away from the scene in Samoa. For those of you who missed it, Earl was sent to Coral Reef Academy in Samoa to deal with his drinking, drug use, and behavioral problems last year. Although he has returned to the states, he raps, “Been back a week and already feel like calling it quits”, maybe talking about the industry, his music, or life itself. We all know Earl has his problems, but hopefully by releasing this track it means he is not finished. He produced the track himself, which promises a lot more of his untapped talent. Here’s to hoping.
