Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino sent the first round of volunteers to assist in New York’s hurricane relief efforts this weekend. The Boston Fire Department’s Deputy Comissioner was among the first to depart late last week,followed by volunteers from the Centers for Youth and Families and Boston’s Emergency Management Office. They will be helping to organize shelters and reconstruction in the wake of the post-tropical storm that flooded and left the city’s residents without power and transportation for days. Serenata de Amor, a musical theater project spearheaded by visual media arts associate professor Claire Andrade-Watkins, was brought to Emerson this past year.
