“Numbers” by MellowHype

Odd Future’s tag team of Hodgy Beats and Left Brain continue to bring their unique style to the music scene.

Recently releasing their second album, Numbers, MellowHype have taken a different direction on their sophomore album. Left Brain, the groups producer, raps on songs “Grill”, “La Bonita”, and “LeFlair”. The album sports “La Bonita” as its first single. Debuting on July 18, 2012, it contains a bouncing instrumental with Latin flavor and a great catchy voice in the background repeating “La Bonita”, making the first single off the the album fun and radio-friendly. Songs like “Break” or “GNC” or “Monster” sound similar and could be easily be forgotten or confused with each other. There are notable tracks such as “Snare”, “P2″, and “Astro”, with the latter two featuring Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean, respectively.

The second single, “Grill”, dropped on October 4, 2012. It was released through Odd Future’s official Soundcloud. The album reached number one on iTunes Rap/Hip Hop chart but was replaced by The Heist by Macklemore.

The album releasing October 9, 2012 is a typical MellowHype record but doesn’t contain the same feel the previous records had. A instant buy but would only get a few spins.
