Mumford & Sons’ Babel Named Highest Selling Debut of 2012

Last week Mumford & Sons’ new album Babel debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 600,000 copies sold, making it the biggest debut of the year. This marks the first #1 album for the folk-rock band and their record label, Glassnote Records, as well as the second highest sales week for any independent album in history. Plus Babel broke Spotify streaming records with eight million streams its opening week.

These high numbers are thanks in no small part to the massive success of the Bable’s lead single “I Will Wait”. The song is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Songs Chart and is Mumford and Sons’ fourth top 10 single on the Alternative airplay chart. Mumford & Sons also graced the cover of Billboard Magazine this week for the second year in a row. A portion of the cover story can be viewed online at
