The Force MD’s, one of the very popular R&B groups, were formed in 1981 and are originally from Staten Island, New York. Known for singles such as “Tender Love” and “Love is a House”, they were one of the best and most known groups of their time. Their group had brothers Stevie D, Antoine Lundy, Rodney Lundy, and their uncle Jessie Daniels. The group later added close friends Trisco Pearson and Charles Nelson.
Originally calling themselves L.D.’s, eventually they changed it to MD, which was short for Musical Diversity. One of the very first groups to mix R&B vocals with new jack swing in their music, it would help their career soar. The group started to perform around New York on street corners and the ferry to Staten Island. Making connections and getting their talent out, they eventually connected with DJ Dr. Rock, also known as Roger Daniels. They continued to grow as a group while working with Daniels and grew a fan base and credibility.
Their hard work paid off when they signed a record deal with Tommy Boy Record in 1984. Known as a quiet, slow R&B group, they released their hit “Tears” from their album Love Letters. Being the first major group that was apart of the label, the pressure was on. Throughout the ’80s, the group received much success with their music. Releasing albums such as Chillin’ and Touch and Go helped them receive their first number one R&B hit in 1987, “Love is a House”.
By the ’90s, the group’s popularity was slowly falling, and it was not likely that you would hear about the group as much. They released Step to Me in 1990 and then Moments in Time in 1994, but tragedy struck when three members of the group passed. Charles Nelson suffered from a heart attack in 1995, Antoine Lundy passed from Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1998, and DJ Dr. Rock died under other circumstances.
Since the tragic deaths, the rest of the group has remained out of the spotlight, but in 2000 they released the album The Reunion and a documentary film on the group is supposed to be released (but the date has not been established).
