Throwback Thursday: Bryan Ferry

For this week’s Throwback Thursday we’re celebrating Bryan Ferry’s 67th birthday with a set of Roxy Music songs.

I didn’t really become familiar with any of Bryan Ferry’s work, whether with Roxy Music or solo until I began working at WERS.  Fortunately for me, we play a lot of it.  Soon enough, I had listened to just about all of Roxy Music’s decade-long output (1972-1982).  Despite a relatively somewhat short heyday, there’s something about the band’s music that keeps it feeling fresh to this day.  Featuring pioneer Brian Eno on their earliest records, Roxy Music now seems to have always been ahead of the curve during their first period of existence – the band, in some form, technically is active today.  Their progressive sound remains fresh today because it still is unlike anything else.  The music they made functioned not only on the level of being really, really catchy pop but also as sonic experimentation.  Oh, and music that’s easy to dance to never goes out of style.

Despite coming into prominence in the early 1970′s with Roxy Music, Ferry’s solo career continues to this day.  His solo work started almost as early as the band in 1973, making him one of the longest tenured artists who are currently producing music – he’s kept up a streak of releasing an album every few years or so since the 70′s.  Join us at 5pm today to celebrate this icon’s birthday!
