Riddims Watch: Universall

Sexy DJ Taj’s latest Dancehall mixtape, Universall, was released September 25th and has something for everyone. It’s a little over an hour of 2012′s best dancehall and reggae hits, woven together for a sure fire hit.

Universall, which can be found for free download on soundcloud.com, is definitely a tape you’re going to want to add to your collection. It’s the perfect collection to throw on during a party to keep it going, or just to have in the back ground while doing your homework or housework. We can be grateful for the lack of bullhorns and sirens that are so popular among other dancehall mixes, and often break up the flow of the songs. With Sexy DJ Taj, the most non-music aspect you’ll hear is her named dropped throughout the mix, letting you know this is her creation, her baby.

Another positive note about this mix is the strong presence of female artists. So many mix tapes, especially dance hall, are full of men, but not this one! We hear the voices of plenty of our favorite female dance hall performers, alongside a number of our favorite guys, all singing about love, life, and dancing. There are fast songs that you can’t help move your body to, and slower ones for more intimate moments. There are songs from artists all over the Caribbean, and she manages to do it without using songs we’ve heard time and time again, truly providing a great variation in sound.

Without a doubt there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy, check it out and find your favorite part!

Be sure to listen to Rockers from 7-10PM Monday-Friday to hear this and all the newest and hottest riddims, from Kingston to Boston!
