Emmylou Harris, revered folk singer-songwriter, and Mumford & Sons are teaming up this week for an episode of CMT Crossroads. The CMT show is famous for pairing various folk and country artists together for one superstar evening. Marcus Mumford has openly referred to Harris as a huge inspiration for their folk rock sound, and says, “I’m like an obsessive Emmylou Harris freak and I’m not ashamed” (CBS). Harris seems equally excited to play with Mumford & Sons, saying, “They’re making the banjo respectable, which is not an easy feat, and I’m so glad it’s finally happening.”
Mumford & Sons are certainly having an exciting week. Their second album, Babel, was released earlier in the week, as I’m sure you know. Performing with Emmylou Harris is certainly an incredible continuation of that week (though probably not as nerve-wracking as performing with Bob Dylan for the 2011 Grammy Awards).
The episode will air Thursday night on CMT.
