New from Chiney K productions, the Conquering Lion Riddim is a solid new showcase of well established reggae names as well a a slew of underground names making their way up. The riddim is a pretty standard reggae groove, but it is well suited to the type of vocalists featured on the track, many of which skirt the line between reggae and dancehall styles. The main melody and chords are laid down by some very light organ tones and clean guitar, giving a very gentle vibe to the riddim. The groove is laid back and smooth but doesn’t move into ballad territory. While the groove doesn’t have a ton of distinctive features, it is a good fit for the vocal tracks and does its job. I don’t think this is going to be an incredibly popular riddim as it doesn’t attempt to stand out from the crowd that much, but at the same time it does provide a good base to work with. Since it follows the standard reggae template so closely though it’s hard to really blow up and I would be surprised if a ton of different artists decided to pick this one up. It is definitely worth a listen though, maybe more so for the vocals lended to the track though. Hear this and others like it on Wers.org or on rockers, weeknights 7-10 on WERS!
