Midnight Spotlight: Kee-Words

Each week, 889@Night will recognize local unsigned talent and promote their music on air as well as on our website. We highlight the talented few who stand out amongst a crowd. This week starting today, August 27th, 2012, we are highlighting local rapper Kee-Words and playing his music at midnight every night this week.

Kee-Words’ real name is Keehln Edwards. He was born and raised in Newport, RI. Newport is known to generally be a place of opulence, wealth, and amazing views. There are plenty of mansions with gold fences, but not everybody lives there. There are places like Park Holm, one of the city’s only projects, where Kee is from. Kee is always open to collaborating with new artists and helping create a community for new artists. Kee believes that music should always be about substance and his music reflects that. Kee uses lyricism, syllables, and wordplay as his weapons against mainstream music. Kee’s goal is to make music that is relatable and relevant.

Kee is currently working on a mixtape entitled: MPC, MYSELF, AND I. Not only does Kee rap, but he also produces all of his own beats. This is such a necessary skill seeing as how this rapper/producer trend has taken over rap because of artists like Kanye, J Cole, and Big K.R.I.T.

Tune in to 889@NIGHT at Midnight Every night this week to hear a song by Kee-Words.
