With growing anticipation of a new album, Havoc and Bright Lights, due out August 28th, Alanis Morissette previewed some of the songs for a special, lucky crowd of a few hundred people on Monday night, according to Rolling Stone. Morissette started recording the album last October, and the first single, “Guardian”, was released this past May. After the live set, Morissette sat down for a 35 minutes Q&A with Billboard, where when asked about the recording of the album she replied, “I put my helmet on and hope for the best.”
Morissette played “Guardian” and a few other new songs that will appear on the album to the small crowd in Sonos Studio in Los Angeles. She also spoke of activism and parenting, and how it is “the biggest activism there is on the planet.” Her belief in the importance of parenting can clearly be seen in “Guardian” where she sings, “I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand/The greatest honor of all, as your guardian.” Morissette didn’t leave the crowd with just the unfamiliar new songs, she broke out into “Hand in My Pocket” towards the end of the set, harmonica and all.
