Each week, 889@Night will recognize local unsigned talent and promote their music on air as well as on our website. We highlight the talented few who stand out amongst a crowd. This week starting today, August 20th, 2012, we are highlighting local rapper Big Dee and playing his music at midnight and 12:30 am every night this week.
Though his story, Bigg Dee has quickly become one of the brightest rising stars coming out of the Boston hip-hop scene. David Appolon, raised in Boston, is now the 20-year-old rapper known as Bigg Dee and is one of the top young talents Beantown has to offer.
Bigg Dee, who has been rapping since the age of 11, released his first official mixtape, D-Day, in August 2011 and has remained steady on the music grind since. His music videos for “We Go Hard” and “Paris (Freestyle)” have generated Over 21,000 views and received great attention all over the web. Bigg Dee has been played on multiple radio stations including Hot97 Boston, Unregular Radio, and even 103’7 Kane FM out in the UK.
His sophomore mixtape, #TOTB: This Is Only The Beginning…, was released June 11, 2012 and ended up getting on the front page of Datpiff.com. It was also listed on the “Top 8″ as well as on the “Featured Mixtapes” section. #TOTB has also been featured on websites like Vibe, Monster Mixtapes, The Fresh Heir, and many more media outlets. Bigg Dee is currently setting up a slate of live performances across the east coast and shooting videos for fan favorite songs off the mixtape.
Inspired by a wide variety of rappers such as 2Pac, Outkast, Nipsey Hussle, Dolla, 50 Cent, Dizzy Wright and Kid Ink, Bigg Dee has developed a style and sound undoubtedly his own and has garnered a growing fan base throughout New England. He has opened up for a bunch of local Boston acts. Make sure you keep Big Dee in your radar, this is going to be a big year for him and the #ChefBoyz!
