Riddims Watch: Peenie Wallie

The Peenie Wallie Riddim is a new riddim to hit the scene this summer from Don Corleon Productions. This riddim features a wide array of dancehall artists, from huge names like Sean Paul and Vybz Kartel to much more obscure artists with their own take on the riddim. The groove itself has a midtempo steady groove, much more low key than what the typical dancehall artist is typically going to work with. The mellow vibe will appeal to the more rootsy reggae fans while the vocals and melodies will retain much of the same dancehall audience. The instrumentation has a prominently featured acoustic guitar, adding some extra flare to the groove and helping it stand out from other similar riddims. The percussion is sparse but rhythmic, laying down a solid beat but giving enough space to move and add sounds and melodies within the groove. This riddim is danceable but also good to just listen to outside of the club, offering versatility and variety that isn’t always easy to find within the genre. This riddim is well worth a look, so find it and others like on WERS.org and on Rockers, weeknights 7-10 on WERS!
