This or That: “Let Me Know (At Your Best)”

“Let Me Know (At Your Best)” by Aaliyah  VS  “At Your Best (You Are Love)” by The Isley Brothers

I thought this was Aaliyah’s song until I heard the Isley Brothers original. I was shocked because all this time I thought it was an Aaliyah classic, until I heard smooth soul talking Ron Isley singing the same exact words. And not surprisingly the Isley brothers did write it – they were definitely known for their hits. The Isley Brothers are fantastic and it is not a surprise that a younger artist samples or covers their music. Although the original sounded amazing, Aaliyah’s version is my favorite. It’s so sexy and soultry, especially with a voice like hers. She makes the song sound so beautiful and innocent, and in my opinion she revived the classic hit. She will never be forgotten and her music will always be celebrated years to come.
