Fun on the Playground: Newton

As one of the larger suburbs in the Greater Boston area, Newton has fun for everyone. Looking for a lazy time on the Charles River or trying to beat the heat this summer? Newton has the perfect place for you! Auburndale Cove is a peaceful park on the Charles River with plenty of ducks, geese, and swans to feed – plus it’s totally free! Another accessible, free, and fun activity might be a trip to the Newton Library. Books are full of wonder and a great way to pass the time. The library also offers a really fun kids area and free computer access!

If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting, though, the Charles River has some more hands-on activities to offer as well. Charles River Canoe and Kayak in Newton offers kayak and canoe rentals, as its name suggests, and you can bring your dog around for a walk! Just keep your doggie on a leash and well-behaved, and Charles River Canoe and Kayak has no problem with your pet coming along for the ride. The Charles River can be a lot of fun! It runs right through Newton and has plenty of beautiful sites, regardless of how dirty the water might be at times. What better way to pass the day than paddling your way down Boston’s iconic waterway?

Newton is also extremely close to Cambridge. Within a ten minute drive you’ll find the Harvard Museum of Natural History, full of plenty of impressive and exciting displays. Certainly an educational and entertaining trip, the drive might just be worth your time! Also in Cambridge you’ll find the Curious George & Friends Bookstore! Drop in to see your favorite mischievous monkey and his owner the Man in the Yellow Hat; check out some fun-filled storybooks!

Or maybe you have a summer birthday? Just because school’s out doesn’t mean you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Newton has several fun birthday party locations for you to check out. Boston Ballet Birthday Parties are hosted in a professional ballet studio and include a 45-minute ballet or creative movement class. An excellent venue, the party spot offers goodie-bags, craft activities, dance props, and more! Or maybe if you’re more into sports, My Gym Birthday Parties hosts private events and parties in the gym. Instructors present various hands-on games and activities to get you moving. Don’t let your birthday pass you by this summer! Have an exciting party at one of these incredibly fun spots!
