Mixtape Mayhem: 3000 Miles of Youth

“Soulful, electro-experimental hip-hop.” No one could have described the sound better. Emmanuel, rapper in the group A Yellow Man, uses these words to sum up the sound of his music. The London-area trio is made up of him, his brother Samuel, and the other MC and friend, Chioma. They’ve maintained a presence online since 2010, and the group began posting their music online, via their website in May of this year. The group offers up a great example of raw talent, and offers a break from the repitive hip-hop that dominates today’s industry. Instead of rapping about partying and living the high life, A Yellow Man chooses to focus their tracks on examinations of self and positive messages. They’ve credited their inspiration to their Christian faith, and wish to use music as a platform to spread ideas of unity and living a moral life.

Each of them offer up a very unique type of flow and delivery that are very different but blend together perfectly. The group’s lyricism and word-play recall styles of The Roots and Chioma’s vocals meshed between the two MCs recall the likes of Lauryn Hill. The amount of creative force the group puts forward is very promising. They have already posted a video on their Youtube page for each of their singles, as well as a brief performance. Each video is a work of art within itself, simple, yet highlighting each of them and their talents. They are currently working on a full-length EP which will hopefully be released soon to keep up with the stir they’ve caused.
