Timeless Tuesday is a snapshot of a moment in Hip-Hop history. We take this time to highlight moments or events that were unique or huge for hip-hop culture.
This week’s Timeless Tuesday focuses on the mighty Mos Def. Mos Def is a hip-hop legend that now goes by the name Yasiin Bey. For the sake of this post we will just refer to him as Mos. In July of 2009, Mos Def released his new album The Ecstatic in a very unique way. Mos Def collaborated with fashion company Invisible DJ and clothing brand Lna Clothing to release the first ever music t-shirt of this kind. The t-shirt features the album’s cover art on the front and features the track-listing on the back. The size tag on the shirt contains a code which points you to a website where you can download the album for free. This was a great idea in the middle of the recession for consumers trying to get more bang for their buck. 889@Night would like to take this Timeless Tuesday to honor Mos Def for his constant contributions to the Hip-Hop culture and his innovation.
