The Cranberry Riddim, produced by Gutty Bling and Claims Records, was released in May has gained some momentum, particularly Mavado’s track “In This World”. The riddim has a hardcore edge, not really following into the more fun-loving riddims that came out around the same time like the Summer Wave Riddim. Major artists on the riddim are Mavado, Beenie Man, Gyptian, Capleton, and Sizzla, making it a pretty star studded. Standouts are Mavado’s “In This World”, Gyptian’s “Lip Lip”, and Beenie Man’s “Must Have Forgot”, but Mavado’s is my favorite on the riddim. Something about the tone of his voice really suites the flow — it must be the Gully in him. Mavado’s track is about not knowing who to trust and being sure to watch the people you surround yourself with. “In This World” is sure to be the takeoff from the riddim and be a great single for Movado. I’m not really sure why the riddim is titled the Cranberry Riddim; it seems a little too cute for the tough sounding riddim, so maybe it’s something I’m just not picking up on. But overall the riddim is on fire, and Mavado’s track is sure to take off! Find this and others like it on WERS at Night on Wers.org.
