Each week, 889@Night will recognize local unsigned talent and promote their music on air as well as on our website. We highlight the talented few who got that “fire”. By the end of the week, we let our listeners choose whether they want these artists to be added to constant rotation or not. This week starting today, July 2, 2012, we are highlighting the group Notoriety and playing their music at midnight and 12:30 am every night this week.
Notoriety is a two man group consisting of MCs Vital Silveira (Vydle Sinez) and Charles Monfort (Incredible Chuck). They grew up down the street from each other. Vydle and Chuck had been close friends, almost like brothers, since the two were children. Each had come in connection with their passion for music at an early age as the pair had unique and individual talents to showcase. As the years built, the friendship grew, and their abilities escalated, Notoriety soon emerged in 2009. Along with several singles, Notoriety currently has four mixtapes available for download: The Toast, The J.A.M. (Just A Mixtape), Part Deux (Hosted By Statik Selektah), and Road Trippin’, Kool-Aid Sippin’, Chicken, Beef Patties, And Herb. The group writes daily, records weekly, and all production, recording, mixing, mastering, and business takes place in-house, independently. As surreal as it seems, Notoriety stays humble and remains proud to be able to do what they love, even having a fan base that consistently gives approval. Feedback, comments, love, and criticism are all encouraged.
Notoriety released their mixtape Road Trippin’, Kool-Aid Sippin’, Chicken, Beef Patties, And Herb in March of this year. It’s a soulful blend of different sounds and themes with a deep root in hip-hop. I love their song with Big Pooh called “Dusty Piano”. The beat is really smooth and the way that they trade bars with an established rapper like Pooh was a great thing to see. Other stand out tracks on that mixtape are “In It to Win It”, “Dynamite”, “Somewhere Else”, and “Get’ Em High”.
Notoriety has really mad a name for themselves within the past year and I am excited to see where they go from here. Tune into 889@Night all week for new music from Notoriety. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook, and download their latest mixtape here!
