Theophilus London Live In Concert

Theophilus London isn’t a name that you come across every day in the rap world. But then again, he isn’t your average rapper. I had heard of him once or twice from friends and immediately fell in love with his style. Putting out music that’s a blend of alternative rock with fast flowing rhymes and smooth vocals, his sound is definitely worth a listen.

On June 22nd, he joined alternative singer Santigold at House of Blues Boston in giving a hotter performance than the 95 degree weather outside. Joined by a small band of a drummer, bassist, and guitarist, London performed fan favorite songs such as “I Stand Alone”, “Lighthouse”, “Girls Girls $”, and “Last Name London”. Sporting a microphone decked out in roses, he danced his way across the stage and charmed all the girls in. During “Love is Real”, his guitarist and bassist ditched their instruments to come and dance with the crowd while London shimmied his way across the stage, showering people with flowers. His entire set was very interactive, at one point bringing people on stage to dance while he performed “Pinky & The Brain”. He’s very aware of having a stage presence, and knowing what to give the crowd.

When it comes to up-and-coming artists, Theophilus London is sure to be something very big. His music is both very lyrical with strong beats, and something about him on stage made you want to dance and enjoy. If you can get tickets, I suggest you run to his next show.
