Sam Presti, class of 2000, is currently executive vice president and general manager for the Oklahoma City Thunder, one of the teams currently in the NBA finals. The team is facing the Miami Heat for the seven game series finals.
Presti has been with the team for the past five years, leading the Thunder in one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history during their 2009-2010 season. The team concluded the season with a record of 50-32, after winning just 23 games the previous year. The same year of the Oklahoma City turnaround, Presti was named NBA Executive of the Year by The Sporting News and additionally selected player Kevin Durant in the 2007 draft, who has since then become one of the leading players in the NBA and the 11th player in NBA history to lead the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons.
Before his time with Oklahoma City, Presti held multiple positions in San Antonio with the Spurs. While with the Spurs, Presti was part of NBA Championship teams in 2003, 2005 and again in 2007 as well as earning five division titles.
Presti received his bachelor’s degree from Emerson in communications, politics and law in 2000 and was the first Rhodes Scholar nominee in the history of Emerson. Presti also served as captain of Emerson’s basketball team during his junior and senior year and was selected twice to be a part of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Tournament team. The Concord, MA native earned All-Academic honors twice during his college career and in 2005 he was honored with the Emerson College Young Alumnus Award.
