Riddims Watch: Old Timer Riddim

The Old Timer Riddim is a new riddim attempting to reach back to the old school roots reggae sounds of classic 70s reggae. Produced by I Love Sound Productions, this particular cut features three female artists Queen Omega, Judy Mowatt, and Tamika. While the vocal style and production quality shown the modern qualities of the track, the smooth back beat and accented horn lines easily blend the two generations of reggae together to create a fresh sound. The first part of the track featuring Queen Omega entitled “Black Woman” is an empowering testament to black women everywhere, following the traditional roots reggae avenue striving for equal rights and respect. The organ lines pop and maintain that classic rhythm as the bass grooves and snakes around the beat, modeled after the roots template that has been used for generations of reggae artists.
