“The System” by Romain Virgo

From the troubled streets of Jamaica, a passionate voice rises with an intimate yet disquieting perspective of life on the Caribbean island. The young and incredibly talented Romain Virgo captivates the attention of reggae enthusiasts with his new album, The System. With authentic reggae melodies and an enthralling voice, Virgo uncovers the devastating issues that plague his home nation. From incessant crime to widespread poverty, Virgo brings to life the heart-rending realities of life in Jamaica.

The album begins with the title track, offering a politically charged narrative that delves right into the heart of the island’s perceived problems. Singing from the depth of his soul, Virgo questions the government asking, “When the system no create no job, wah yuh expect ghetto youths fi hav? Dem will kill people and rob…” The distressing circumstances continue on in “Minimum Wage” where Virgo sheds light on the state of Jamaica’s economy – a place where even employers are unable to pay their workers.

Although the initial conveyed tone is grim, The System also offers more hopeful and motivating messages as the album wares on. “I Know Better” in many ways conveys Virgo’s success story by sharing how he stayed away from the negativity and violence in order in order to better himself and his family. Adding to the positive vibes, Virgo touches on love and relationships in “I Am Rich in Love” by expressing his bubbling love for a woman who he hopes to share his life with.

As mentioned before, Romain Virgo offers an incredible musical talent that is especially evident in “Don’t You Remember”. This soulful rendition of Adele’s track retains the emotional intensity of the original, yet is sprinkled with the vibrant and melodious sounds of reggae music. This musically revamped version truly adds a new value that will speak to die hard reggae music lovers. I’m telling you – you’ll be swaying side to side, clutching your heart on this one.

With an earnest musical narrative and an amazing passion for music, Romain Virgo hits the nail on the head with The System. This album offers a glimpse into the tough realities of this artist’s world, while still tantalizing your musical needs. Amongst a host of young reggae artists, Romain Virgo certainly shines, offering the perfect balance of honest storytelling and exceptional musical artistry.
