Revo Radar: Zedd

Europe is home to some of the best and most dedicated electronica artists. Anton Zaslavski, or “Zedd”, a Russian-born German DJ, is one of these rising stars of the electric music genre. A classically trained musician, Zedd began producing his own music in 2002 in a German hard rock trio, Dioramic. In 2009, hearing Justice’s album   influenced him to pursue a new genre of music, leading him into the electronic music scene.

Using the all-popular Cubase music production suite, Anton creates a unique sound that he calls “Zedd Style” that consists of hard-hitting bass, heavily progressing melodies, and layers upon layers of synths. He claims to draw his influences from the Progressive House, Complextro, and Dubstep sub-genres of electronica.

He first became popular for his DJ abilities after winning two Beatport remix contests. His remix of “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” by Skrillex broke into the Beatport Electrohouse Top Ten charts at a solid #2. He has since produced remixes of well-known artists of the likes of Wolfgang Gartner, B.O.B., The Black Eyed Peas, Fat Boy Slim, and many more.

Only age 22, Zedd has also had several hit original singles including “The Anthem”, which broke into the Beatport Electrohouse Top 20 list, as well as the recognizable beats “Legend of Zelda”, “Spectrum”, “Autonomy”, and “Stars Come Out” featuring Heather Bright. Another single of his, “Shave It”, was premiered in September of last year as a thirty second teaser on Skrillex’s YouTube page. This was Zedd’s first release on OWSLA records and one of his biggest jumps into the mainstream electronica scene.

Some of Zedd’s newest remixes have become huge hits around the world, including Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and “Marry the Night”, which are known to most little monsters after appearing on Gaga’s Deluxe Edition release of her 2011 “Born This Way” album. His skills impressed the Mama Monster so much that she invited him on her tour as well and he is currently opening for the pop music queen throughout the Asia-branch of her hugely popular tour, the Born This Way Ball.

Last year, Zedd appeared at Electric Forest and Electric Daisy Carnival, and toured along side Deadmau5, Skrillex, and Porter Robinson to name a few. This year he has taken a huge leap forward and performed at widely-known and loved festival Coachella.
