On the Verge: Plants and Animals

Every Tuesday at 4:15pm, WERS highlights an artist we think is up-and-coming in our weekly On The Verge series. This week we are featuring Montreal based indie-rockers, Plants And Animals!

Plants And Animals were formed back in 2004 by Warren Spicer (vocals and guitars), Nic Basque (vocals, bass, keys, guitars) and Matthew Woodley (drums, vocals). They released two EPs 2005’s Plants And Animals, and 2007’s With/Avec before releasing their debut album, 2008’s Parc Avenue. Parc Avenue was critically lauded and the album was nominated for a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year and shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. The group followed that album up with 2010’s La La Land.

2012 brings the release of the third Plants and Animals full-length, The End of That, which was recorded in Paris, France and features the new single, “Lightshow”. According to the band, sound of the album was inspired by everything from 1970s rock and roll, to RnB, to more grandiose anthems.

Plants and Animals is name that you certainly will start to hear over and over again as they show absolutely no sign of slowing down any time soon. Make sure to tune into WERS this Tuesday at 4:15pm to hear an exclusive in-studio performance and interview from the band!
