- About WERS
On Tuesdays at 4:15, listen in to WERS for our weekly “On The Verge” series, where we highlight a band or solo artist that we feel is just about to hit the big time! This week we are featuring Welsh singer-songwriter, Cate Le Bon.
Le Bon hails from Penboyr, Wales and sings in both English and Welsh. With dreams of becoming a musician, Le Bon relocated herself to Cardiff, and it was there that she met leader of the Super Fury Animals, Gruff Rhys. Rhys offered Le Bon opening spots for the Super Furry Animals tour and soon afterwards she released her first EP, Edrych Yn Llygaid Ceffyl Benthyg. A debut album soon followed, April 2010’s Me Oh My, which led Le Bon to her first United States tour, where she appeared at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, as well as various venues across the country – from Los Angeles to Boston! One unique thing about Le Bon’s music is her extremely dark lyrics. Le Bon, herself, says that she has an “abnormal fixation with death”.
Earlier this year, she released a second album, Cyrk, which is very, very heavily influenced by krautrock artists like Faust and Can. On April 21st, she will be releasing a brand new split 7” with Gruff Rhys in honor of record store day.
Make sure to listen in to WERS today at 4:15 to hear a performance and interview from Cate Le Bon from the WERS studios!
