Emerson Alumni Brent Jennings, Susan Banks, Leslie M. Davis and others have recently founded an Alumni Association for EBONI (Emerson’s Black Organization with Natural Interests) in Los Angeles. The Association seeks to “help Emerson invest in diversity and transform the landscape of the communications industry”
EBONI alumni hosted a reception for Emerson President Lee Pelton in 2011 which sparked a renewed spirit of investment and engagement with future generations of Emerson students and EBONI members.
In the past, EBONI alumni have established a diversity scholarship named for Mary Burrill who was one of Emerson’s first African American graduates and went on to become a renowned playwright and educator. The newly founded organization seeks to expand across the country and develop mentorship and internship programs for to enhance Emerson’s commitment to excellence and diversity in communications and the arts.

Serenata de Amor, a musical theater project spearheaded by visual media arts associate professor Claire Andrade-Watkins, was brought to Emerson this past year.
