“Backseat Driver” by The Cat’s Pajamas

The Cat’s Pajamas are a nationally known children’s group that has been performing and educating families together since 1995. They have become a big hit with children and parents alike.

The group released their first album in 2001, becoming an instant hit and winning awards such as Best New Album. All nine members of The Cat’s Pajamas have unique experiences and all bring something special to their music and performances. Together they create a fun interactive, family-friendly concert experience. The Cats are known to be high energy and lots of fun for the whole family. True to form, they don’t fall short on their newest album, Backseat Driver.

Backseat Driver will provide you with enough excitement for a fun-filled car ride. The Cat’s Pajamas has a unique rock style that differs from other children’s groups and can be heard throughout all their work. Although their latest album targets a younger audience than usual, ages 2 – 8 instead of the 5 – 11 age group from their other albums, it still has the same energy and style as their previous albums.

Not only are The Cat’s Pajamas songs fun for the whole family but they are also educational and teach life lessons. For instance, “How Many People in a Family” teaches lessons about the importance of family no matter how big or small it may be. Education is a large part of why The Cats perform and this album is another great success in the education department.

Even though the album provides the listeners with new fun songs, such as “Driving in My Car”, “How Many People in a Family”, and “Just an Old Jalopy,” it also has a few repeats from their previous albums. For instance, “Alphabet Soup” has been on two of The Cats albums. This could have been avoided by replacing the repeated songs with new and exciting material.

The Cat’s Pajamas’ new album, Backseat Driver, will be fun for the whole family and very educational for the kids. It is definitely a must have if you don’t mind a few much-loved repeats off their previous albums.

One Response to “Backseat Driver” by The Cat’s Pajamas

  1. Hello WERS! I’m so pleased you reviewed our new album! We’re very excited to announce that it’s won a Parent’s Choice Silver HOnor Award and also very proud that we’ve done two live interview/performances on your radio station, with another one to come either in NOvember or February (or both). You’ve made lovely points about our music and your review is charming.

A small note since your only criticism refers to re-releasing previously recorded material, you might double check your info, even with the recording artist themselves. Our first album was released in 1999, not 2001, but when this new album released, we thought it was very important to get our older stuff that really did not represent our sound off the radio. That album was Cool Music for Kids and received a Children’s Music Award for Best New Artists for Children. That included the original 2-girl recording of How Many People in a Family, a song we then put aside for 10 years.

In 2001, we recorded Going Bananas and yes, that has Alphabet Soup on it but except for the bass player/original duo partner, the band is totally different musicians, both of these songs are totally different bands and arrangements and were re-recorded because they have continued to be “theme songs” for us that the audience screams for. As a matter of fact, very -famous children’s radio raconteur, Kathy O’Connell, told me to take most of the whole first album and re-record it with our current fabulous band as the material’s GREAT but no longer in any way shows what The Cat’s Pajamas can do.

Thank you again, and excited to see our friends at WERS so soon!
    Janet
